The New Woman

by Jon Hassler

The "new woman" who just moved into Staggerford's Sunset Senior Apartments is the town's venerable retired schoolteacher, Miss Agatha McGee. And at eighty-seven, she's hardly new. While she's not as independent as she used to be, she is still the voice of reason, and Sunset's residents still need her advice. From grammar to grave-digging, Agatha's got her nose into just about everything.

I enjoyed this sweet little (214 pages) novel. Hassler's gentle style and strong sense of place (small town Minnesota) just cannot be beat. A nice escape.

If you haven't read any of the other stories featuring Miss McGee, check out Staggerford and Dear James.
