Never a City So Real

by Alex Kotlowitz

Read it for a book discussion

This slim volume contains profiles of Chicago characters and their neighborhoods. Mind you, they are not people you'd know or really care about. They are just regular people in Chicago, and, like most of us, they are horribly ordinary.

He writes about an artist who is famous in France, but unknown in our fair city. He writes of a man who wants to fight Cicero's city hall and can't win. And other people like that.

Who cares? Not me. Not the other members of my book discussion group.
