Strawberry Fields

by Marina Lewycka

If you enjoyed A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian (and who didn't?), you'll love Lewycka's latest offering.

A group of migrant workers at an English strawberry field experience the world of employee exploitation together. Both male and female, the group hails from Poland, Ukraine, China, Africa, and Malaysia. Crammed into two trailers, the workers become fast friends, and two characters stand out: Ukrainians Irina and Andriy.

Irina and Andriy come from different worlds; she is the refined young lady, and he is the son of a miner. And just when it seems that they'll never get together, they hit the road, and romance ensues. Eventually. But first they must endure peril, violence, and, of course, hilarity.

Light, amusing, and just plain fun.
