So, I'm really torn about this novel. On the one hand, I've read many negative critiques of this book, and I have to agree with every word I've read. But. . . I was strangely hooked on the story. No, the plot wasn't original, no the characters weren't particularly believable, and, of course, the language was not spectacular, but there was something strangely compelling about this story of the different women who come together to comprise the Friday Night Knitting Club.
You'll meet:
- Georgia, the owner of Walker & Daughter yarn shop,
- Anita, her motherly employee and confidante,
- Peri, the talented designer,
- Dakota, Georgia's daughter and knitter in her own right,
and several other women. Who have womanly problems. And, yes, that's where this book goes wrong: these women go through the same things that every woman goes through in the typical women's fiction novel. Nothing new. Nothing interesting.
But there's something about this book that keeps you reading, in spite of its lack of originality.
