A city of nameless people is suddenly struck by an epidemic of white blindness. Helpless, most of the afflicted lose their humanity. But one small select group, the group of people first afflicted, maintain their coping abilities.
How? One woman has been spared, and she has lied about her blindness. She is the eye doctor’s wife, and she will soothe her “friends” and lead them towards a better life. But only if she can survive the vicious and frightening newly blinded society.
At first, I had a hard time getting into this novel. The author engages in one of my least favorite practices: writing dialogue without the use of quotation marks. The lack of names for characters also made for a rocky start. But soon I fell into the groove and really started to enjoy this one.
It’s not for everyone, but it is interesting.
