The Persian Pickle Club

by Sandra Dallas

Depression era Kansas sets the stage for a story of women and friendship. The Persian Pickle Club is a group of women (all ages) who quilt together. Bor-ing, right?

Well, it's pretty dull, and too many women are introduced to the reader at the beginning. Then a new gal, Rita, comes to town. She shakes things up a bit. She likes drinking and dancing and all of that other stuff that stodgy Kansas women avoid. Then a dead body is found. It is the husband of one of the Pickles. Then Rita decides that she wants to find the killer. Then I stopped caring.

This is a very strange novel. First, you think it's one thing--a gentle Depression era tale of women's friendship and quilting. Then it becomes a murder mystery. Then you encounter some strange violence. Then you stop caring.

This one is definitely not for me.
