Who is Ella Minnow Pea, and why is she writing so many letters?
Ella is a young woman living on the isle of Nollop, just off the coast of South Carolina. Nollop is named after the great Nevin Nollop, the man who authored that famous typing exercise, "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
Nollop is currently in crisis. The statue of Nevin Nollop, which includes that famous sentence, is falling apart. When the z falls off the statue, the island's council decides that the letter will no longer be used in Nollop. Simple, yes? Well, wait until more letters start falling off the statue!
Needless to say, this is a very clever story about language and our alphabet. A nice, quick read.
