The Coffee Trader

by David Liss

Miguel has just lost his shirt in the sugar market and needs to find a winning trade soon. But Miguel is not a 21st century commodities trader. He is a Portuguese Jew in 17th century Amsterdam.

He is currently bunking in his brother’s basement and desperate to regain his solvency. When a Dutch friend introduces Miguel to coffee, things get very interesting. After all, coffee is not yet a popular commodity in Europe. He quickly devises an elaborate coffee trade and is doing everything he can to make it happen.

Can he pull it off? Read this thriller (of sorts) and find out!
