Revenge of the Mooncake Vixen

by Marilyn Chin

I am really not sure what to think of this “novel,” which I would not consider to be a novel. But it says so on the cover, so I guess that I can call it a novel. Really, it’s an almost random collection of stories or tales. I would classify them as tales because there is a lot of magical realism in these stories.

Anyway, our main/recurring characters are twins Moonie and Mei Ling Wong and their grandmother, Mrs. Wong. Moonie is the brainy, athletic twin (who might be a lesbian), and Mei Ling is the über promiscuous twin. Together, they deliver bad (Americanized) Chinese food in southern California. They have many adventures together, most of which include Mei Ling’s sexual appetite and Moonie’s desire to kick the heck out of any guy she sees. Additionally, their grandmother has her own violent and downright scary tendencies.

I don’t know what else to say. It’s a weird book, and I cannot recommend it.
