Diary of a Wimpy Kid (#1)

by Jeff Kinney

A Novel in Cartoons

Greg Heffley is a weakling amidst the giants of middle school. His struggles are common: girls, popularity, athletics, and the rapidly (or not-so-rapidly) changing bodies of middle schoolers.

His best friend, Rowley, shares in Greg’s struggles. Of course, they get involved in sorts of antics, both in school and out of school. Their friendship is tested, as Rowley achieves a greater level of popularity than Greg possesses. No matter what, the boys always find their way back to each other.

I can understand the appeal of this novel for reluctant readers. The story’s cute, there are enough cartoons to keep readers interested, and Greg is an imperfect protagonist, just like the boys who are reading his diary.

I'm glad you liked it! I thought it was super cute-and I laughed out loud at parts of it. The drawing at the beginning where Greg is passing the note from the girls and he thinks he's being all cool, and the note actually says he's a dork? Hilarious!

I thought it was adorable! My nephew LOVES this series, so I just had to read the first book.
