Soulless

The Parasol Protectorate, #1

by Gail Carriger

Vampires and werewolves comprise Victorian England’s supernatural population. And then there’s Alexia Tarabotti: she is a preternatural. What does this mean? Quite simply, she is soulless.

But that’s not all! She’s also a spinster. Of Italian origin. With a killer parasol.

When Alexia is attacked by a vampire, an investigation reveals some strange happenings in London, including the disappearance of several vampires. With the help of Lord Maccon, a sexy werewolf, Alexia learns the truth behind the vampire disappearances.

This was just weird. The characters were not all that appealing, and the circumstances of the supernatural/preternatural were never fully explained. I should have loved this novel, but it just wasn’t as good as it could have been.
