Heart of the Matter

by Emily Giffin

Nick Russo is a successful pediatric plastic surgeon. He is married to Tessa, who is both beautiful and intelligent. They have two children, Ruby and Frank.

But everything changes when Nick is called away from their anniversary dinner to treat burn victim Charlie Anderson. Charlie is six years old and is being raised by his single mother, Valerie. Nick and Valerie forge a bond during Charlie’s surgeries and treatments, and the bond leads to more than either party expected.

Meanwhile, Tessa is left to speculate about the origins of Nick’s less than loving behavior and contend with the neighborhood gossip about Valerie, Charlie, and Nick.

Trite, annoying, and just plain insipid.
