The Plague of Doves

by Louise Erdrich

I received this free, autographed ARC at the PLA conference in 2008. I cannot believe that I waited 3 years to read this incredible novel!

Our story begins with a snapshot: a family is brutally murdered, and only the baby survives the massacre.

We then meet Evelina, a young girl on the reservation. From her, we learn stories of her family, her friends, and even a beloved teacher (Sister Godzilla).

The novel is set up like a series of short stories. The characters we meet eventually become linked together. By the time the reader finishes, he/she has a good sense of history and a better understanding of the massacre at the very beginning of the novel.

Simply wonderful.
