by Johanna Spyri
Young Adelheid has no idea of what lies in store for her when her aunt brings her to her grandfather’s home. You see, Heidi is an orphan, and her aunt, Detie, can no longer care for the 5-year-old. Her last hope is the grumpy, old man known to the villagers as “Uncle Alp.” Luckily, her grandfather needs Heidi just as much as she needs him.
Up in the mountains, the Swiss Alps to be exact, Heidi flourishes. The fresh air, the friendly goatherd, and the sound of the wind whistling through the firs are all that Heidi needs.
Readers will appreciate this children’s novel for two reasons: the glorious descriptions of nature and the delightfully sweet, unspoiled young girl named Heidi.
Loved it!
