Snow

by Orhan Pamuk

Translated from the Turkish by Maureen Freely

Exiled poet, Ka, returns to Turkey to investigate a story. The small, depressed town of Kars is suffering from a wave of suicides. Religious girls are allegedly killing themselves because they are forbidden to wear their head scarves. Ka seems intrigued by the happenings, but has Ka returned just for this story?

Truth be told, there are other reasons for Ka to return to Turkey. And once he is there, there are several reasons why he will want to stay for a while.

Love, inspiration, political upheaval, religion, family, and intrigue all play a part in this chilly and engrossing novel.
