by Katharine Hepburn
My interest in Ms. Hepburn began when I saw On Golden Pond. I was instantly fascinated by this grand woman. When I was in college, my mother gave me this memoir. Since then, I’ve watched countless movies starring the legend, but still hadn’t read this. Now I have!
This memoir is really a compilation of stories/ramblings of Kate. Honestly, it is not well written. It appears as though someone recorded Hepburn and transcribed her ramblings. And yet, I felt transported each time I read some of this. The writing is not eloquent and does not always make sense to me, but somehow it works.
My favorite tidbit: Hepburn’s parents were friends and neighbors of Sinclair Lewis. OMG, my favorite American author! Too cool.
And I love how honest she is about herself. She admits to being selfish. She is highly critical of her own performances. And she is just as amazing as I had imagined her to be.
As I said, this is not a great memoir, but it is an interesting look into the life of a great woman.
