The Violets of March

by Sarah Jio

I read this novel in one day, so I must have enjoyed it.

Our story begins with Emily in the present day. Her marriage is over, and she’s looking to get away for a while and heal. And maybe even start writing again. At the invitation of her aunt, Bee, she travels to Bainbridge Island in Washington.

Once she’s on the island, she discovers a diary from 1943. The owner’s name is Esther, and her story of love and loss captivates Emily. When Emily makes connections between the diary and her own life, the intrigue only continues. Who is Esther? Are the other people mentioned still living on the island?

This was easing reading, and I enjoyed the story within the story (Esther’s diary).
