The Wisdom of Hair

Our story begins in 1983, in a small town in the mountains of South Carolina. On her 19th birthday, Zora Adams says goodbye to her alcoholic, Judy Garland-obsessed mother. With the help of a beloved teacher, she moves to a coastal town and enrolls in the Davenport School of Beauty.

There she meets Sara Jane Farquhar, and the adventure begins! They become fast friends, and Sara Jane’s family becomes Zora’s family. When she’s not fixin’ hair or hangin’ with Sara Jane, Zora pines for her dreamy, yet alcoholic landlord.

Zora has some growing up to do, and this is the time and place for it to happen. Her story is sometimes cute and sometimes sad.
