Tarnished

by Karina Cooper

Cherry St. Croix (a stripper name, if ever I heard one) is leading a double life. By day, she is a well-to-do young lady plagued by her family’s unfortunate reputation. By night, she is an opium addict and a “collector” or bounty hunter.

In this first entry in the steampunk/thriller series, Cherry is looking for a killer of prostitutes. The killer is particularly brutal, as the victims are found in pieces.

I’m not quite sure what to make of this novel, but I sure do like Cherry St. Croix. Despite her unfortunate name, she is a strong, yet imperfect heroine. She’s got a little bit of Stephanie Plum in her, and a little bit of Anita Blake, too.

An easy, breezy summer read!
