The Agony of Alice

by Phyllis Reynolds Taylor

Oh, the agony of being Alice! Seriously.

Alice McKinley has a lot with which she must contend:

•Moving
• Entering 6th grade
• No mom (long since passed away)
• Clueless father and way older brother
• Puberty, and
• Boys.

Where does it end?

If only someone would help poor Alice to navigate this confusing world, like Miss Cole, the young and attractive 6th grade teacher. Alas, Alice is stuck with plain old Mrs. Plotkin, hardly a role model for Alice, at least in Alice’s opinion.

Is Alice doomed to make mistake after mistake, constantly embarrassing herself? Or can she grow up on her own?  Read and find out!

I loved this novel! I wish it had been around when I was a kid (copyright 1985). This is a great story with a really sweet and heartfelt ending. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
