Anna Karenina

by Leo Tolstoy

I finally bit the bullet and read this classic Russian novel.

First and foremost, the title of this novel is somewhat deceptive. Tolstoy did not spend 900 pages solely on the story of Anna Karenina. Tolstoy actually tells the tale of 3 couples:

• Anna Karenina and her lover, Count Vronsky,
• Anna’s brother, Stiva, and his wife Darya (Dolly), and
• Konstantin Levin and Dolly’s sister, Kitty.

There is infidelity, there are love triangles, and there is tragedy. Mostly, the story is about Levin and his philosophical struggles, as well as Anna’s affair and its aftermath.

So long, but still worth reading.
