Meet Cath and Wren, freshman twins at the University of Nebraska. Nearly inseparable since birth, the twins are starting college without each other, more or less. Wren cannot wait to break away and live with a new roommate; Cath is terrified of anything and everything new.

Luckily, Cath has someone else besides Wren—Simon Snow. The fictional Snow is the equivalent of our Harry Potter, and Cath is a prolific writer of Simon Snow fan fiction. She is pretty obsessed with Snow and the writing gig. That is, until real life gets in the way.

The pressure of college, her mentally ill father, an out-of-control sister, and a potential boyfriend leave Cath with less and less time for Simon. Still, it is the writing of fan fiction that gets Cath through the tough times.

Can Cath find a balance between college life and her fan fic life? Is Simon Snow bringing Cath down, at least in terms of her creative writing skills? Can Cath survive her super-tough freshman year in Lincoln?
