Gone Girl

by Gillian Flynn

Meet the unhappily married Dunnes: Nick is the small town Missouri man who made it all the way to New York City. A writer for magazines, Nick met his fabulous wife and led the good life. Then he lost it all and returned to Missouri. Amy is Amazing Amy, the inspiration for her parents’ successful series of books for children. Born and raised in wealthy NYC, Amy only knows the good life. She is beautiful, successful, and rich. Everything goes her way. That is, until she and her husband lose their jobs and move back to his hometown.

Now Nick co-owns a bar (The Bar) with his twin, Margo (Go). He also teaches at a local college. And Amy? She’s not doing much right now. Mostly, she’s feeling sorry for herself and stuck in her lousy marriage.

Everything changes for the unhappy couple when Amy disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary. Is she dead? Did Nick kill her? Was she abducted? Or did she simply leave on her own?

Fear not, dear Reader, all will be revealed.

It’s hard to believe that this is a bestseller. It really is. Flynn lobbed few surprises my way, except for the very end of the story. I’m not the most brilliant reader of mysteries or suspense stories, but even I could see what was going on long before Flynn revealed a plot twist.

Whatever. This is an extremely addictive read—I’ll give it that!
