by Jen Lancaster
In her latest memoir, Lancaster tackles Martha Stewart. More specifically, Jen tries to incorporate more Martha Stewart in her life, particularly in the area of organization.
For me, the highlights include:
• Jen blowing out the insides of eggs for Easter (been there, done that after watching Martha’s show),
• Jen struggling to cover her duvet (been there, done that with Sterling), and
• Jen adopting two difficult cats (just adopted my own “level 2” shelter cat).
Here’s why I love this latest offering from Lancaster: it is very relatable. I could not believe that her experiences mirror some of mine. I haven’t identified with her so much since Such a Pretty Fat.
Here’s what I didn’t love so much: this was not a typical memoir from Jen. Where are the footnotes? Where is the filthy/funny language? I missed both. I’d call it Lancaster-lite.
If you like Jen Lancaster’s writing, no matter what the topic is, read this. If you’ve ever tried to channel Martha Stewart in your life, you’ll enjoy this. If you like Jen’s filthy language and sometimes offensive attitudes, skip this one.
