Our story begins with Bit. Bit is the son of Abe and Hannah, residents of a commune in western New York State. Arcadia.
Life at Arcadia is horrifying: poverty, selfishness by their leader, Handy, and a general lack of good nutrition, hygiene, and medical care.
What follows is the story of a family, a commune, and life after Arcadia.
This novel starts out very slowly—so slowly that I almost gave up on it. But Bit held my interest (and my heartstrings). I really wanted to know what happened to him.
All in all, a satisfying read.
