Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

by Vicki Myron

Where do I begin? Dewey was a kitten found in the library’s book slot by librarian Vicki Myron. It was the coldest evening of the year, and Dewey was not in the best shape. Nursed back to health, Dewey became the library cat/mascot for the public library in Spencer, Iowa.

That’s it. Well, that’s Dewey’s story. Unfortunately, this book doesn’t just tell us his story. Readers are also subjected to the life story of author Vicki Myron, as well as the history of Spencer, IA. Bor-ing.

Honestly, Dewey’s story could be contained in a magazine article or a children’s book. This book of more than 200 pages is way too long.

Even though I am a librarian and a cat owner, I must admit that I strongly dislike this book. I’m not really sure why anyone loves it.

Skip this one.
