American Born Chinese

by Gene Luen Yang

This highly touted graphic novel tells three stories:

1. American born Chinese Jin Wang just wants to fit in. Being different from all of his classmates is difficult; having a crush on an all-American girl is torture.

2. Danny is a popular all-American boy. He's got a hot girlfriend, and he's a basketball star. So what's his problem? His cousin, Chin-Kee, the stereotype of all Chinese stereotypes, visits every year, and every year, Danny is humiliated.

3. A great monkey is born to the mountain. He is a king of flower-fruit mountain, but that is not enough. He wishes to be a god. . .

All three stories come together in an amazing and highly original way. I loved this!
