Crossing California

by Adam Langer

Chicago’s West Rogers Park neighborhood is divided by California Avenue: wealthier folks to the west, please. In this novel, the neighborhood is as much of a character as the main players: the Wasserstroms, the Rovners, and the Wills. From 1979 to 1981, the reader will follow the trials and travails of three families in WRP. The teens will amaze you with their sophistication and insight; their parents will amuse you with their naiveté and foolishness.

I loved this book, and I don’t want to give a single thing away in my review. You’ll love the Wasserstrom sisters, Jill and Michelle, and you’ll laugh at the Jerusarock stylings of Larry Rovner and his band, Rovner!

Read it, enjoy it, and learn a little bit about a Chicago neighborhood.

I checked it out yesterday! After I finish my book discussion, I am looking forward to reading it. I loved those characters and the way the author described the neighborhood.
