by Blue Balliett; Illustrated by Brett Helquist
So, I've read Girl with a Pearl Earring and Girl in Hyacinth Blue. Chasing Vermeer seems like a logical choice for me, and it is. This is a delightful mystery for juveniles, complete with gorgeous illustrations by Brett Helquist.
In a nutshell: Petra and Calder are sixth graders at the University of Chicago's Lab School. Their curiosity is aroused when a famous painting by Vermeer, The Lady Writing, is stolen. Through a series of coincidences and clues, the twosome is drawn into the mystery of the stolen painting, and they're determined to return the painting to its rightful owners.
The plot, setting, and characters are all wonderful. Every child should read this one!
