The Hunger Games

by Suzanne Collins

The nation of Panem was once known as North America. Its Capitol lies in the Rockies (Denver, maybe?), and it is surrounded by twelve distinct districts, each recognized for an industry.

A yearly event, the Hunger Games, is a televised competition between the young people from the districts. Each district is represented by a boy and a girl between the ages of 12 and 18. The object? To be the last contestant (“tribute”) standing.

Enter Katniss Everdeen. She’s 16 and the hunter for her family, which consists of Katniss, her mother, and her little sister, Prim(rose). When Prim is chosen to represent District 12 in the Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place, and this is where our story begins. . .

Katniss is more than capable with a bow and arrow and various animal traps. She could easily survive on her own. But can she survive when 23 other teens are trying to kill her? Can she actually kill another person?

All will be revealed in the fast-paced, futuristic, reality television inspired novel for teens. This novel is awesome! Read it, read it, read it!

I just read this last week - awesome, awesome, awesome! Can't wait for the next book in the series. Jeanne, did you read Stephen King's review in Entertainment Weekly? It's also posted at Amazon.
