by Annie Proulx
It's her third collection of Wyoming stories, and I think this ought to be it for Proulx. As with the other collections, a few stories stand out, and the rest are not that appealing. Highlights of this collection include:
Family Man: takes place in the Mellowhorn Retirement Home. During a series of conversations about his childhood, Ray Forkenbrock, resident, reveals a startling family secret to his granddaughter.
I've Always Loved This Place: a tale in which the Devil considers remodeling Hell. No joke!
Tits-up in a Ditch: while the title refers to the position of a found cow, the story concerns itself with the bleak Lister family. Very bleak.
