Bruno, Chief of Police

by Martin Walker

The title of this novel makes it sound like a story for children. The simple, kind of retro cover illustration also seems like the sort of thing you’d see on a children’s book. But it is not.

This is a mystery set in a small village in France, St. Denis. Benoît “Bruno” Courrèges is the chief of police in St. Denis. He is a simple man with a simple job, until a dead body is found!

Bruno’s first murder case is a tough one. On the surface, the crime appears to have racial overtones. All of St. Denis is up in arms over such a horrific happening. The question is, is our simple chief of police up to the task of solving such a crime?

Nice setting, an appealing sleuth, and an interesting mystery.
