How to Buy a Love of Reading

by Tanya Egan Gibson

Carley Mills is an overweight underachiever. And she’s never met a book that she liked. But her family’s rich, so her shortcomings should hardly matter.

Our story begins with a sweet sixteen birthday celebration. Carley may be an outcast among her peers, but her sweet sixteen will be the most spectacular that Long Island’s ever seen. Her well meaning father decides that her gift will be unique. He and her mother have hired a famous writer to author a book according to Carley’s specifications, thus ensuring that Carley will actually want to read a book. Not only will Mills buy a love of reading, but his family will be “patrons of the arts,” just like the de Medici family.

What follows is the skewering of two worlds: the rich and the literary. Awesome.
