by Christopher Fowler
Bryant & May are back for their second mystery. This one takes place in the present, and the two codgers are just as sharp as they were in their first outing together.
Unfortunately, this mystery isn’t nearly as good. When a series of murders strikes one neighborhood, the Peculiar Crimes Unit is puzzled. The murders have one thing in common: every victim has been asphyxiated.
There are also a bunch of uninteresting subplots: rivers under the city, ancient religions and art, and the homeless in London. Very convoluted, but I did enjoy the explanation/resolution. Also, Fowler creates a great setting—damp and rainy London.
