Starvation Lake

by Bryan Gruley

Michigan. Hockey. Murder.

When Gus Carpenter returns to Starvation Lake, MI, it is a humbling experience. After a ten year absence, Gus returns to his hometown because he’s been fired from the Detroit Times. To add insult to injury, he is returning to the town in which (and for which) he lost the state hockey tournament so many years ago.

But these humiliations are overshadowed by the discovery of a snowmobile in Starvation Lake. The vehicle belongs to his old hockey coach, but didn’t Coach die in an accident on another lake in town? The plot thickens when a bullet is found lodged in the snowmobile. Was Coach murdered? And how will anyone know the truth when Coach’s body was never recovered from the lake?

It’s up to Gus to find the truth, just like any good newspaper man would. Good mystery, interesting characters, and great use of setting.
