Noah's Compass

by Anne Tyler

61-year-old Liam Pennywell has just been laid off from his teaching job. Not that he really cares, as he is a philosopher, not an educator, at heart.

Now that he is retired, Liam is trying to simplify his life. On the first night in his new (and cheap) apartment, he is attacked. And he doesn’t remember a thing.

The gap in his memory plagues him and leads him to re-examine his life and start living.

Real characters, real setting, and real situations. Quiet and honest. Tyler’s still got it.
