Gourmet Rhapsody

by Muriel Barbery

In The Elegance of the Hedgehog, Pierre Arthens is the dying food critic. The world’s greatest food critic. Gourmet Rhapsody is his story, and what a story it is!

Using alternating points of view, Barbery tells the story of a much hated man. Everyone and every thing have an opinion about him, but in truth, his life comes down to this one true thing: food. When we read his side of the story, his truth, it is all about food and how he experiences it. His vivid and eloquent descriptions of food can make anything, even toast, sound heavenly.

This novel is so much better than The Elegance of the Hedgehog. This woman can write about food!
