Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert want to adopt a boy. A boy could help the brother and sister with their farm. Instead, Anne Shirley arrives in Avonlea.
The scrawny and spunky girl with red hair is not to be denied. She is full of enthusiasm and imagination, which both Cuthberts seem to lack.
Anne quickly adjusts to life at Green Gables and soon finds a best friend. But school does not come as easy for Anne. Luckily, she finds her way and succeeds beyond all expectations.
Anne Shirley is a bit much for me. The language she uses is more sophisticated than you’d expect, and I certainly cannot imagine an eleven-year-old girl identifying with her.
