by Jon Krakauer
When asked to cover an Everest expedition for Outside magazine, Jon Krakauer had no idea of what awaited him. A climber in his own right, Krakauer embraced the opportunity and experienced Everest with his whole being.
Unfortunately, the expedition went awry. Though he reached the summit and safely descended, others were challenged by altitude, inexperience, greed, and an unexpected storm.
Though it’s easy to read, the narration gets a bit cocky as the story proceeds. In fact, by the end, Krakauer is not a sympathetic figure.
