A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, college students could major in home economics. At the fictional Wilton College, the home ec department, as headed by Martha Gaines, has a “practice house” with “practice babies.”
Henry House is one of those babies, born in 1946. But he is a special baby. Unlike the others before and after him, Henry never returns to the orphanage. Instead, Martha keeps him and so begins an interesting and sometimes heartbreaking life adventure for both Henry and Martha.
Great setting, great characters, and great plotting.
