Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters

by Jane Austen and Ben H. Winters

Much like Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, this novel is full of humor and irreverence. At first, I wasn’t sure about the whole sea monster theme, but it works rather well. Marianne loves to play sea shanties on her pianoforte, and Colonel Brandon has a face full of tentacles. Because his age isn’t enough of a turn-off. Ha!

Anyway, the basic plot of S & S is still there; it just has the added intrigue of all things nautical and nefarious. Miss Austen’s sense of humor and romance are honored. And the jokes about Brandon’s face are hilarious.

Loved it.
