When God was a Rabbit

by Sarah Winman

This is the story of Elly (short for Eleanor Maude). Elly has always been an outsider. She has two friends: her older brother, Joe, and Jenny Penny. Joe knows all of Elly’s secrets and has promised to protect her. Jenny Penny is Elly’s only ally outside of her family. The girls forge a strong bond, though both have dark secrets.

Over the years, Elly loses both of her soul mates, but only temporarily. It is through this process of loss that Elly finds her voice, writing a column called “Lost and Found.” By writing, she survives the turmoil of loss and embraces the joy of finding her lost friends.

Beautiful, magical, and sad.
