The Season

by Sarah MacLean

Seventeen-year-old Lady Alexandra Stafford is on the brink of her greatest challenge yet: the season. Yes, it’s true: Alex will be stepping out for her first social season in London. Unfortunately, she’s not a typical young woman of Regency England. No, she’s not interested at all. She would rather just hang out with her two best friends, Ella and Vivi.

Alex’s sense of adventure and steady loyalty to her friends will help her survive the season. When she inadvertently becomes involved in intrigue concerning Gavin, Earl of Blackmoor, Alex feels more alive than ever before in her life. And she also feels something else—could it be love?

This is a so-so attempt at a Regency romance for young adults. The author could have just stuck to the romance theme and eliminated the spy plot for a much better novel. And, if there are young ladies who read this and enjoy the spy aspect, I would recommend The Secret History of the Pink Carnation series.
