This is the first entry in the Walt Longmire mystery series. Walt is the sheriff of Wyoming’s Absaroka County. He is a grizzled, alcoholic widower and pretty darn likable.
Unfortunately, he’s got a real mess on his hands. Young Cody Pritchard has been murdered, and just about everyone in town would have killed him, if given the chance. To further complicate matters, Cody was part of the raping of a local Cheyenne girl just a few years ago. Could this murder be connected to the rape?
With his longtime friend, Henry Standing Bear, and his faithful deputy, Victoria “Vic” Morretti, Walt must find the killer before he strikes again.
If it hadn’t been so wordy, this would have been a great mystery.
