How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents

by Julia Alvarez

Meet the four García sisters: Carla, Sandra, Yolanda, and Sofía. Driven from the Dominican Republic to America, the girls will struggle to define themselves within the confines of their family, as well as the rest of the world.

I enjoyed the family dynamics explored in the novel, as well as the concept of the four sisters (just like my family). Additionally, the author uses reverse chronology in her narration, so the reader is enticed into finding out how the García girls got their start in the world.
