Olive Kitteridge

by Elizabeth Strout

In a small town in Maine, we meet Olive Kitteridge.  Through a series of short stories, the reader is introduced to Olive, her family, her neighbors, and her former colleagues and students.  Each story reveals another facet of Olive's personality.  By the end of book, readers understand Olive and recognize that she is not just the cranky retired schoolteacher that she initially appears to be.

Interesting and thoughtful.  I liked the use of short stories to illustrate the character of Olive Kitteridge.
