Fangland

by John Marks

Yes, it's another vampire book. I just can't help myself!

In this modern retelling of Dracula, we meet Evangeline Harker, an associate producer at The Hour, a top-rated news program. The atmosphere at The Hour is referred to as "Fangland," as many individuals can be viewed as bloodsuckers. Recently engaged, Evangeline is not eager about her new assignment: travel to Romania to secure an interview with Ion Torgu, an Eastern European crime boss.

When she arrives in Romania, we immediately know that something is wrong. Everyone warned her about the region, and most, including Evangeline, didn't want her to go there. So, she meets Torgu, and he turns out to be the bloodsucker of her worst nightmares. Except that his teeth are so rotted that he doesn't bite people. Instead, he uses a knife to slash his victims and then collects the blood in a bucket. Nice, huh?

I loved this novel. It's a good retelling of Dracula, and it's scary/creepy just like Bram Stoker's original. A quick and juicy read, Fangland is for anyone who loves vampires, Dracula, or the television news industry.
