Bitter Sweets

by Roopa Farooki

This is the story of a family built upon lies. When she is a young teen, Henna is married to Ricky-Rashid. Her father has lied about her age, and that lie sets the stage for more dishonesty from both parties. Their daughter, Shona, engages in a web of lies, and even her sons, Omar and Sharif, engage in their own brand of non-truth-telling.

This novel starts out slow, but really hits its stride about 100 pages into the story. Hang on--it's worth it.
