Our Mutual Friend

by Charles Dickens

This is the last complete novel written by Charles Dickens and my last Dickens novel for 2008. 14 novels, 12 months, and a lifetime of bragging rights!

Our story begins with a body removed from the Thames. The body is believed to be that of John Harmon, and his death has consequences for several characters: the person(s) accused of his murder, the woman he was supposed to marry, and the new heirs to his father's estate, an estate that he was coming to London to collect.

There's only one problem: the dead man is not John Harmon, and this is where the fun, greed, and violence begin!

The novel contains all things and themes Dickensian and is a fabulous conclusion to my year of Dickens.
