Wow! Though it starts out slowly and is written in a non-linear fashion, hang in there, reader, this one is special.
Bloodroot is the story of a family that lives on (and off) Bloodroot Mountain in rural Tennessee. Mountain folk include:
• Byrdie, a loving grandmother and woman that comes from a family of witches;
• Myra, the mystically appealing granddaughter of Byrdie and the central character of the novel; and
• Laura & Johnny, Myra’s twins.
Themes include family ties, dangerous love, and, of course, the poverty that can trap people.
Really, really worthwhile.
